what to expect from a house cleaner

The honest guide to your first — and every — Dirt Busters clean.

This page tells you exactly what happens before, during, and after your cleaning — including three things most customers don’t know going in. Read it once and you’ll have the full picture. One page, no runaround.

3 things every customer should know first

Before anything else — read these three.

These are the things most customers wish they’d known going in. They don’t make us worse — they just make us different from what you might expect. Being upfront about them is exactly the kind of professional house cleaning service we are.

01
👤 Know this first

We send one cleaner — not a team

For most homes, we assign a single cleaning technician. We don’t guarantee the same person every visit — but every technician follows the same detailed cleaning checklist, so your home gets the same thorough clean regardless of who comes. Cleaning time varies from one to several hours depending on the size and condition of your home. Don’t be surprised if it gets done faster than you expected — that’s what a pro looks like.

02
🧹 Know this first

We do surface cleaning — not customized scope

Dirt Busters provides professional surface cleaning of your home. We follow our proven cleaning process, room by room, top to bottom. We do not customize the scope per visit, and we do not organize clutter, wash dishes, fold laundry, or take on tasks outside standard cleaning tasks. What we do, we do thoroughly. The complete included and not-included lists are below.

03
🕐 Know this first

Your arrival window is 2 hours — confirmed the day before

We don’t give precise arrival times in advance because our schedule depends on the homes before yours. What we do give you: a 2-hour arrival window sent the day before your cleaning, and a text 20 minutes before your technician is on the way. You’ll always know when to expect us — just not down to the minute until the day of.

Standard cleaning service scope

What we clean. What we don’t.

Our standard recurring cleaning service covers the surfaces listed here. Add-on services are available for extra tasks — see the section below. This is the complete picture, no asterisks.

✓  Included in every standard clean
  • All floors vacuumed and mopped — every room
  • Countertops, sinks & backsplash wiped down and sanitized
  • Stovetop cleaned; outside of kitchen appliances cleaned and polished
  • Microwave cleaned inside and out
  • Cabinet and drawer fronts wiped down
  • Bathroom sinks, counters, tubs, showers & toilets scrubbed and disinfecting throughout
  • Mirrors cleaned and polished throughout
  • Furniture dusted; upholstered furniture vacuumed (one room)
  • Baseboards dusted (rotation) — door knobs & light switches wiped down
  • Ceiling fans dusted (rotation); cobwebs removed
  • Window sills & blinds dusted (rotation)
  • Trash emptied, outside wiped, liner replaced
  • Outside of laundry appliances cleaned
  • Primary sliding glass door cleaned and polished
  • Eco-friendly cleaning products — safe for kids, pets & allergy sufferers
About rotation tasks: Some detail tasks (baseboards, ceiling fans, blinds) rotate across visits so your home stays thoroughly cleaned over time. Your technician tracks which rotation tasks are due each visit as part of our regular maintenance cleaning process.

💬
Why we’re telling you all of this upfront: The most common source of disappointment with any house cleaning service is a mismatch between what a customer expects and what the cleaner actually does. We’d rather be clear now than have you surprised later. What we do, we do extremely well — over 1,100 five-star reviews from Phoenix homeowners say so.

How to prepare for your cleaning

A few minutes of prep gets you the best clean.

There’s no need to clean before we clean. But a little prep lets your technician spend every minute on actual cleaning tasks — not navigating around obstacles. Here’s what helps.

1
Do a quick pick-up
Pick up excess clutter from floors and surfaces before your cleaning visit. Decluttering beforehand means more surface area gets cleaned, not worked around. Move any fragile items out of areas you want thoroughly cleaned.
2
Clear the sinks
If there are dishes in the sink, we’ll work around them. If the sink is too full to access, we won’t be able to clean it. Washing dishes before we arrive ensures your clean kitchen gets the full treatment.
3
Secure your pets
We love pets — and our customers’ reviews prove it. Please secure any pet that might be a threat to your technician or that might interrupt the cleaning process. Calm, contained pets are no problem at all.
4
Make sure we can get in
Most customers give us a key or access code and come home to a clean house. If you won’t be home, contact our office with entry instructions before your cleaning day. A lockout means your technician loses income — and you’re charged the full cleaning fee.
5
Send special requests 48 hours ahead
If you have specific needs, contact our office at least 48 hours before your cleaning so we can note them on your account. Day-of requests can’t always be accommodated once your technician is already en route.
6
No judgment comes through that door
Life happens — surgery, work, kids, health. Your technician walks in ready to work, not ready to evaluate. “She just came in and got to work without judgment.” That’s the standard, every visit.
Before your first clean
Starting with a deep cleaning service?

All new customers are required to start with our Top-to-Bottom Deluxe deep cleaning service before moving to recurring maintenance cleanings. This first clean resets the home to a baseline we can maintain — tackling hard water stains, grime buildup, and the kind of deep scrubbing that a maintenance clean isn’t designed to cover.

“The results were so much more amazing than I ever imagined.” — Sarah G., move-out deep clean

Common questions answered

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get most often from homeowners before and after their first cleaning service — answered honestly and completely.

Will I always get the same cleaning technician?

We don’t guarantee the same technician every visit. What we do guarantee is the same clean. Every Dirt Busters technician follows the same detailed cleaning checklist, room by room — so the standard doesn’t change based on who shows up. Whoever walks through your door has been trained on our proven process and knows exactly what a complete clean looks like.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning?

Most of our customers aren’t home — they give us a key or access code and come back to a clean house. Every Dirt Busters technician is background-checked, bonded, and insured. If you are home, give your technician space to work and wait until they’re finished before inspecting. You’ll receive a day-before reminder with your 2-hour arrival window and a 20-minute heads-up text on the day of your cleaning.

Why does my technician finish faster than I expected?

Professional cleaners work efficiently — that’s not cutting corners. Your technician follows a proven cleaning process and has the experience to move through it quickly. Cleaning time varies from 1–8 hours depending on the size and condition of your home. For homes on a regular cleaning schedule the clean goes faster because upkeep between visits keeps the home maintained. Your technician double-checks every room before leaving.

What if I have a lot of clutter before my first visit?

We don’t organize — that’s not part of our cleaning service. If an area has 5 or more items (books, mail, clothes, dishes, etc.), your technician will work around them rather than move or sort them. The best results come from a quick pick-up before we arrive. Decluttering surfaces means more surface area gets cleaned, not worked around. If your home has extreme clutter that limits safe access, we may not be able to complete the full clean.

What is the difference between a standard cleaning and a deep clean?

Our standard recurring cleaning covers maintenance surfaces — floors, countertops, bathrooms, and living areas, with rotating detail tasks like baseboards and ceiling fans. Our Top-to-Bottom Deluxe deep cleaning service is more thorough: hard water stains, grime buildup in tubs and showers, and the kind of detailed scrubbing a maintenance clean doesn’t cover. Note: inside the fridge and oven are add-on services only and are not included in either a standard or deep clean. All new customers are required to start with a deep cleaning before moving to recurring service.

What exactly is the 2-hour arrival window?

Because our cleaning schedule runs sequentially through the day — and the homes before yours affect timing — we provide arrival windows rather than precise times. The business day before your cleaning you’ll receive your specific 2-hour window (for example, 10am–12pm). Your technician may arrive any time within that window. On the day of your cleaning you’ll receive a text approximately 20 minutes before they arrive so you always know when to expect them.

What is the Happiness Guarantee?

If something wasn’t done to your satisfaction, contact us right away and we’ll come back to re-clean the problem area at no charge — within two business days of your original cleaning date. If you’re still not satisfied and Dirt Busters is at fault, we’ll offer a refund or partial refund. The re-clean must be accepted within those two business days for a refund to apply. We’ve stood behind every job since 2001.

Do you bring your own cleaning supplies?

Yes. Your technician arrives fully equipped with professional-grade eco-friendly cleaning products and all necessary cleaning supplies. You don’t need to provide anything. Our products are non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe for households with kids, pets, and allergy sufferers. Multiple customers have noted their allergy symptoms improved after starting recurring service with Dirt Busters.
